Jeff Bagby has travelled to Wadworth Brewery (Wiltshire) to brew this black beer especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. Aromas of roasted barley, coffee and cocoa lead to a smooth, balanced flavour, with a finish which is clean and dry, with subtle roasted notes.

Cask at the Standing Order. Pours black with a nice beige head. Aromas of toffee, chocolate. Taste is cocoa, liquorice. Dry finish. Good start to the festival sampling.

Cask handpull at Crosse Keys Spoons. Black beer lasting tan head. Some liquorice. Light coffee and cocoa. Some dark fruits. More liquorice. Not my kinda stout. Juicy.

Cask at the standing order. Pours deep brown, nose is liquorice, caramel, chocolate, blackcurrant, taste is similar, light sweetness.

On cask at the Standing Order. Appearance - deep brown to black and opaque. Lovely fawn head. Nose - creamy chocolate wafer. Toffee lurking. Taste - toffee and creamy chocolate again. Also biscuit in there. Palate - medium bodied at least. Creamy texture. Dry malty finish with decent linger. Overall - good gear.
