Jeff Bagby has travelled to Wadworth Brewery (Wiltshire) to brew this black beer especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. Aromas of roasted barley, coffee and cocoa lead to a smooth, balanced flavour, with a finish which is clean and dry, with subtle roasted notes.

Hand-pulled half-pint in the Flying Chariot on 17th April 2019. Really pleased to see this as we said goodbye to my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter in Terminal 2 of Heathrow Airport as they returned to the US. It was only three weeks ago my wife and I were drinking at Bagby's place in Oceanside and enjoying their beers, so this fitted the bill nicely for a last beer with our Californian branch of the family. The beer was OK actually. Black, weak tanned head. Loads of dry maltiness throughout.

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Black with a tan head. Nice smooth mouthfeel, and good condition - this 'Spoons is rocking it on the cellaring front recently. Tastes of cocoa, blackcurrant, raisin, a wisp of smoke, and a mellow lie back, slow down and think all is right with the world flavour. Excellent beer, love the smoothness.
