Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Clear ruby/brown body with a beige head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of nuts and dried leaves. Flavour of wood and berries. Thin body with a cask-like mouthfeel. Soft fizz. A lovely, subtle beery beer.

From cask at the 26th East Anglian Beer & Cider festival, Bury St Edmunds. Pours mid brown with a bubbly cream coloured head. Aroma of nut, light fruit, malt, chocolate, and slight stewed veg. Light sweetness, medium bitterness. Light to medium body, slight watery texture, soft carbonation. Finish is very dry, fruity and nutty.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - deep brown to black with red chinks. If the head had hung about for a bit longer, we’d have been talking a 5. Nose - hazelnuts, sweet malt, a hint of chocolate. Taste - toffee and sweet nuts. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a balanced dry finish. Overall - decent.

Bottle conditioned 500ml: from Beers of Europe. Poured carefully into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 15th Jan 2016. Deep, dark brown body, tanned wispy head. Chocolate nose and taste, no trace of nuts or squirrels in either the aroma or flavour: disappointing! Actually it was a very easy drinking Mild with a true chocolate feel throughout. The finish is on the dry side and slightly bitter, but this is predominately all about the malts and the chocolate esters they have given to the beer.
