Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

12 oz bottle in the hotel. Pours a clear watery brown with a decent tan pillowy head. Nice appetizing aroma of pecan, cashew, some vanilla, some milk chocolate. Taste is a little watery but nice smooth mouthfeel, an easy drinker.

I got this bottle in a trade with Wasatch. Thanks John!

It pours from 12oz bottle a clear deep amber with a nice 2 finger head of foam and lots of lacing.

The smell is malty, nutty, and has some citrus hops there as well.

The taste on first sip and I immediately notice the pecan influence. Nice. After another sip or 2, I get a good caramel malt backbone that works quite well with the nuttiness and I'm surprised at how good a mouthfeel this has...quite silky. It finishes with that citrus hop flavour that I noted in the smell. This is a very nice Brown Ale indeed and the foam does a pretty good job sticking around for the entire session.

Bottom line: This is a well crafted example of the style and I really like how the pecan interacts with the other flavours. A very good session beer to boot!

Tap @ Pour House, Nashville. Deep clear copper with a thin head. Berry-sweet nose, with a mildly sticky-sweet texture and taste on this occasion.
