Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

33 cl bottle @ home, bottled 11/2016. Thanks Timo A!
Aroma has bready malt and some peanuts. Feels sweetish. Flavour has bready malt, peanuts and some minerals. This has something in common with malty German dunkels. Rather good and rich for this ABV.

Weird, like an English brown ale mixed with a neutered scotch ale. Ugly, slight aroma of caramel, and the taste is all caramel and deep toffee malts. Maybe the slightest pecan bitterness on the finish. Pretty bland.

Bottle. Reddish color with tan head. Aroma is rusty nails, crushed cashew nuts, some caramel malts. Taste is caramel malts, some rusty nails, touch of chocolate. Natural carbonation. Nicely drinkable, the flavour is quite Dunkel-style, the nuts are mostly in the aroma.

Pours dark amber with a frothy head that does not last. Aroma is caramel and somewhat earthy. Taste is caramel malt up front with the pecan becoming more noticeable during the finish. Straightforward - there are no unexpected twists or turns here, good or bad. Reminds me of some of the nut brown ales I went through years ago in England. Body is overall just a touch too light for my liking. It’s not watery, but a more assertive profile would raise the rating. Overall, nice.
