Is a cask conditioned lager ~ still a rarity amongst real ales. This is a skilful, continental mixture of bitterness and fruit.

Cask (lager) at Bird in Hand, Stafford. Pours a pale straw with a small off-white head. Some floral hops and traces of corn in the aroma. There’s fairly high but soft carbonation in the mouth. Overall it’s sweet with malts and lemon rind. Later on some bitterness becomes evident and this increases in the finish. It’s OK, but a bit of a niche style that doesn’t really appeal to me.

Cask-conditioned at the Plough, Worcester 176/6/2016. Golden in colour, with a slight, white, head. An easy drinking beer, with hay, cereal malts, a hint of stone fruit and moderately bitter finish. Ok.

Hand-pulled half-pint in The Cock Hotel, Wellington on 27th June 2014. Pale golden body with a white crown. Odourless and almost tasteless. Did nothing for me at all, I do not think cask lagers work, this one did not in my eyes anyway. Slight bitter feel but nothing much to write about really.

Cask@Market Porter, London. Yellowish golden colour, small creamy white head. Aroma is fruity, floral, mildly honeyish as well. Flavour is quite similar with some mil earthy and more evident floral notes.
