The bright, golden color of our Winterfestbier brightens the dark depths of winter. A lengthy maturation period gives this beer its full-bodied flavor. Offered seasonally, this beer is brewed with a different, unique hop variety each time.

Clear medium golden colour, tall frothy white head, receding slowly, fair lacing. Aroma malts, grain, grass, light caramel. Taste medium sweet and light bitter, malty, grainy, light toffee. Smooth malty sweetbitter aftertaste, light spicy bite in the finish. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, nothing spectacular but well-made and solid Märzen.

Bottle (Systembolaget Garching): Golden, clear, mid-sized loose and slowly collapsing white head; mild to moderate sweetish-grainy nose with a touch of honey, a small amount of herbal hops; mild to moderate sweet-bitter flavour, almost medium bodied, pretty soft; slightly lingering, smooth sweet-bitter finish. Nothing wrong with it, just a quite tame Märzen...

Clear golden with little white head. Aroma is dusty and herbal hops, stinging nettle, fresh but too botanic. Taste is some malty sweetness but mostly hoppy tartness, with some alcohol. Buttery and more stinging nettle on the tongue. Not smooth, dusty in the finish. Nah.

Bottle. Pale golden, white lace. Straw nose. Medium light body. Somewhat flat straw malt base, ok balance, light spakles, balanced to boredom.

Bottle. Clear yellow-golden color with small white head. Aroma is floral, spicy hops, touch of honey. Taste is floral, some grassiness, again a touch of honey. Medium carbonation. Well-balanced, but not exciting.

50 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Gall&Gall, Culemborg. Clear pale golden with a white head. Grainy aroma with some hops. Taste is nicely bitter and crisp. Not spectacular in any way but really well made elegant beer. Gains a lot more depth when it warms slightly in the glass

500ml bottle (BB 27th Oct 17) from Beers of Europe, shared with my son on 11th Dec 16. Looking at my notes and then reading my rating for the normal Weihenstephaner Festbier, this may well just be a re-badge because it’s the same ABV and looked, tasted and smelled the same. Liked it. If they have added something in the brewing to make this a different beer, then I have missed it.
