Tripel spiced with cardamom, from a young (2018) microbrewery situated at the IJsselmeer; thanks Craftmember for sharing. Egg-white, thinnish and opening head on a hazy ochre-tinged peach blonde beer. Aroma of black cardamom indeed (a bit overpowering as it tends to do in beer), caraway seed even, white pepper, banana, leftover dough, thyme, old lemon zest, oxidized apple peel, hints of clove, white candi sugar and orange. Fruity onset, peach and some banana, sweetish with medium carbonation, slick mouthfeel; white-bready and lightly caramelly malt sweetishness ensues, with a layer of honeyish residual sugars on top but avoiding stickiness; the cardamom sets in early and strongly, but somehow remains less all-consuming than expected based on orthonasal aroma. Floral hops add soft bitterness and a calvados-like alcohol glow rounds things off, with both the cardamom and the fruity esters lingering about. Sweet Belgian style tripel indeed, but the cardamom, rarely used in beer, provides a welcome distraction from the eternal coriander seed more typically used in this kind of beers; lacks some structure and depth even for a tripel, though.

Uit fles bij NHBF'21. Diepgouden kleur, geen (?) kraag. Kruidig, korianderzaad, appels, moutig, typische tripel, licht bloemig, wat citroenrasp, bittere finish. Medium body. Degelijk.
