Alaskan Barley Wine has been produced in limited edition vintages each year since its introduction in 2003. A big beer for big winters, this brew has garnered a steady following in Alaska. Bottled for the first time in 2007, the balanced flavor collaboration between hops, malt and high alcohol showcases the barley wine style, winning first place at the 2007 Toronado Barley Wine Festival and bronze at the 2008 World Beer Cup.

650ml bottle from Elizabeth Station bought on 5th Anniversary event, shared with Jamey and Brad. Vintage 2011. Pours a hazy brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet with dried fruits and caramel. Taste is pretty much the same with lots of sweetness, caramel, and toffee. Some hoppy bitterness on the back. Good barleywine. I can only imagine how good this would be barrel aged.

Bottle shared @ The RBScSG in Gothenburg. Pours hazy caramel brown with a small goldenish offwhite head that leaves some sparse spotty trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty, tiny herbal and slightly earthy with caramel, toffee, sweet dark bread, biscuits, moist grass, pine needles, moist soil, grapefruit rinds and lemon peal. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty, herbal and earthy. Mouthfeel is round, tiny viscous, tiny astringent, slightly boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with caramel, toffee, biscuits, whole grapefruit, moist grass, pine needles, resinous wood, orange peal and lemon peal. Spot on US barley wine. Solid stuff! --- Beer merged from original tick of Pilot Barleywine on 12 Jul 2015 at 00:29 - Score: 8
