Mijmer - Barrel-aged wild beer with 115g/L black currant and fennel seed.

Splashing fruits supported by a fennel seed body. Mijmer has been aging on the barrel for 27 months. In the nose you smell the fruitiness of the black currants and notes of vanilla, embracing the barrel. The black currants are picked at food forest De Nieuwe Hof and have macerated for 3 months in the beer. A subtle hint is added by the fennel seeds, which were roasted briefly. The seeds are harvested at de Ommuurde Tuin. Mijmer is a very complex beer while being very soft to the palette with only a smooth touch of sourness, even though its long barrel aging"

Small, somewhat pinkish head, rather stable over sorrel to pale terra-cotta beer. Vinous, rosé wine, quite fruity. Pink berries. Fruity, again berries, but whereas the nose was really vinous, here it lends more towards soft drink. The blackcurrent appearing more and more - Hero? Rosehips. Very well-carbonated, fruitslick and -filled. Some acidthinning, almost refreshing. OK, but I've had better from Nevel.

Pours a cloudy orange red body and a dense light pinkish head with good retention. Aroma's: sour fruit, berries (not necessarily sour), herbs, actually it makes me think of butterscotch a bit. Retronasal it's much more herbal, sourish, fruity, funky. Flavour is moderate sour and light sweet, funky. Light medium bodied.

Poured from bottle @ MBCC 2023 red session (finally adding my notes). Hazy orangey red with small white head. Mild black currant, touch of fennel seed, okay.

Very sour at first but it softened out. Black currant is intense but delicious. Pic: I don't need any more beer glasses but since Nevel is sadly closing their doors soon, I thought I should...

Bottle 75 cl. Pours a cloudy, opaque dark red with a small, rough reddish head. Distinct blackcurrant aroma. Medium body, a slight, initial sweetnes before the combined acidity of the berries and the beer hits you. A complex sourness with acetic acid dominating and some woody tannins. A complex and very refreshing fruity Sour. And it WILL give you heartburn! 010224

Bottle pour at MBCC 2023, pours an opaque bright cherry red with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out bright fennel, rustic saison yeast and red currant. Flavour is bizarre, with fennel, rustic saison yeast and a touch of jammy currant. Dry, spicy, herbal finish. This doesn't work.
