THE PLATYPUS OF BEER - There are a myriad of beer styles out there, but none as perplexing as the German Lichtenhaimer. It combines an easy-drinking wheat beer with the spontaneity of a sour, boldness of smoked ale, and crispness of a lager. It's a lot n paper, yet, the combination works harmoniously together. Prost! To those who want a bit of everything.

Half pour at brewery. Pours clear pale yellow with white head. Aroma has minerals and stringent, ashy smoke. Flavour has an ashy stringency, crisp malts, solid carbonation. Tart and refreshing, seems well-made.

Pale greyish-yellow and some haze. Just a thin head. Aroma is wheaty, lightly smoky, a bit on the yeasty side. It's tart, refreshing, wheaty, and light-bodied. The smoke rolls through gently. Good balance. Probably a little fruitiness from the Hll Melon in there. Well-balanced. Yum.

On tap at Another Beer Co, pours a clear pale blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out gentle smoke upfront, with a soft wheaty backbone. Flavour is tart and smoky, with a nice tart citrusy character, light lacto, and gentle smokiness that pervades it all. Smoky, tart and soft wheaty on the palate. Good stuff.

Okay hazy yellow body with some modest foam. Aroma is soft lemon zest, some melon. Taste is tart citrus wheat, mellow smokiness. Refreshing finish, lingering wheat notes. Maybe about as good as this style gets.
