What is Bouncy House? It’s the next step in our quest to brew the perfect low-alcohol, high-flavor, hoppy American ale. We learned a few things from brewing ParadoX earlier this year, like lowering the alcohol content and avoiding the terms "session" and "IPA." When you taste Bouncy House, you’ll taste a modest malt bill of North American 2-row, British pale ale malt, C-60 and Aromatic malt mashed for a refreshingly light body that leaves plenty of spotlight for a melange of Warrior, Calypso, El Dorado and Citra hops.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks zvikar. Hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of fruity and piney hops, somewhat stale. Dry flavor with somewhat stale hoppiness and a pretty strong bitterness. Medium-bodied.

Bottle at Euston Tap. Cloudy dark gold, with reasonable head and some lacing. Astringent corn lager smell sits astride more nuanced citrus and resinous notes. Taste is crisp and clear, but has the sharp bitterness more akin to a US premium lager or old-style mega-IBU IPA. Aftertaste is too bitter for my liking. An odd, very un-IPA beer which, despite its identity crisis, carries a fair bit of flavour. By the way, how is a 4.9% beer a ’session’ beer? Has the USA become a nation if rampant alcoholics in my absence?

Bottle. Cloudy, glowing orange color with a thick lace head. Huge tropical fruit nose, with grapefruit, papaya, passion fruit, and biscuits. Dry, bitter tropical fruit flavor with grapefruit zest. Very bitter finish. Light body, though silky. Very drinkable and flavorful. Stupid name and label.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run, opened 6/24/14. Pours a hazy amber color with fine floating particles. Medium sized creamy white head. Good head retention. Aroma of citrus and tropical hops, caramel malt and a mild garbage and plastic note. The taste is bitter citrus hops. mild tropical notes, pale malt, a bit of caramel. Medium bodied, strong lingering bitterness, slightly off balance. Disappointing.
