Deep ruby color, smallish steady beige head, some lace. Caramel, brown sugar in the nose. Medium-bodied. Caramel, some chocolate, light citrus hoppyness in the finish. Somewhat subdued flavors, could work with food? Well-brewed brown ale.

Bottle from the brewery drunk on a sunny Sunday lunchtime. Dark brown beer with lasting beige head. Aroma of brown malts and some hop. Some milk chocolate. It’s a tasty beverage. I’ve always liked these American influenced brown ales. Not as thick and roasty as an impy stout, but still satisfyingly full. With that crisp lime hop note to keep it in balance. Good.

Dark chestnut brown, thick beige head, good lacing
Aroma of light caramel malts, slight yeast, touch of dark fruits
Taste of caramel, soft toasted malts, little nutty, light brown bitter malts, light toffee, some soft raisin fruits
Palate - soft carb, medium body, soft bitter. Finish as main flavour.
Overall - Soft easy going, most understated Kernel I’ve had to date. Nice beer but perhaps a bit too subdued

Bottle at home from the brewery. Aroma is nutty, malty, leather with some earthy pine. Pours quite thick and hazed chestnut brown with a lasting cream head. Flavour is earthy roast, maltyand some twigs. Finish is a fairly clean aggressive bitterness and some ashy roast. Clean cal ale yeast ferment. Medium full body with lowish carbonation. Decent, but not a whole lot going on.

Euston Tap. Keg. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth with fine carbonation. Smooth malt with a whisper of dark character, touch of dark malt bitterness. Very light malt sweetness. Hops are vaguely piney with a whisper of tropical fruits and citrus. Carbonated nip in the semi dry finish. Light bitter malt linger. Drinkable but unusually mellow beer by Kernel standards.

Keg at Kernel. It pours murky deep brown with a small bubbly beige head. The nose is bitter-sweet, pine, toffee, candy, earth and treacle. The taste is bitter-sweet, light roast, toast, coffee, cola, cocoa, spice, some acidity and mild bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Smooth, easy-going and rather drinkable.

Tap at the brewery, 21/12/13. Opaque mahogony brown with a thin light tan covering. Nose is toffee, cocoa powder, cheescake base, earthy, brown bread. Taste comprises Bourbon biscuits, toffee, earthy, brown sugars, dark malts, brown bread twang. Medium bodied, fine carbonation. Good for the style, a fairly earthy number.
