Imperial Porter fermented with all natural raspberry puree, conditioned on cacao nibs and vanilla beans. The roasty malt backbone with notes of toffee, caramel, and coffee, create a backdrop that highlights this porter’s balance between the rich chocolate and vanilla, and the bright, acidic sweetness of the raspberry puree. Athens, Ohio is the home of the Appalachian Hell Betties and the Black Diamond Betties Roller Derby team: a non-profit, volunteer run organization. Hell Yeah, Hell Betties!

$2 can at chalet in n-lima. Decent place. Pour is big and black and it has a thin tan head. Nose is slight volatile raspberry. Taste is big volatile imperial stout laced with fruit. Very medicinal. Difficult and boozy. So much so big so over the top. Very dark burnt chocolate and it at times comes across as cloying. Nasty rude ass brew made for sipping. Too much for any lager lover. But hey, if you want to catch a buzz, this stuff feel like 12%, not 9! One mouth coating monster, fer sher.

On tap at Jackie O’s. Pours a deep brown with a thin head and aromas of somewhat fake and strong raspberry flavoring. The flavor follows the lead here and is a little overly done and almost cloying. If the fruit was backed off a bit I would have appreciated this one a lot more.

Sampled from a growler at the 2010 March Metro Detroit tasting. Poured black with a dark brown head. Aroma was full of sweeter notes with biscuit and a hint of butter. Flavor reminded me of a grain bin, with a sweet undertone of butter and vanilla.

Growler share courtesy of markwise. It pours deep darkness with thin off white head. The aroma has an initial inviting note of creamy toffee candy followed by a modest amount of dark roasted malts and a light sense of sweet dark berries. The taste is sweet and then becomes vanilla all the while slowly edging toward sweet berry fruitiness. By midway it picks up a thin layer yet persistent layer of dark roasty malts.

Sample from a growler at the Hopsnobbery Collective Stout tasting on 01/23/10. The beer pours black with a thin light brown head that recedes quickly. Stringy lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and raspberry. Medium body with flavors of roasted coffee, raspberry and malt. Touches of vanilla as well. The finish is roasty with a raspberry/vanilla aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
