We take our year-round production Big Eye IPA and infuse fresh skinned, sliced ginger root into the beer post fermentation. The spicy Centennial hops used in Big Eye go very well with the spicy taste and aromatics from the fresh ginger root. The solid malt backbone of Big Eye also lends itself well to ginger, almost adding a candied component as it blends across your palate.

Mad mex tap. Pale with a slight brown tint. Nice lacing. Mild dull ipa perfume. Taste is simply one big terribly on style ipa blast. What else can be said? No hint of ginger or heat. Mouth coating soapy finish, not impressed with the style even after years and years. Go figger.

Pours a hazy dark amber from a bottle, not much ginger in the nose but a lot of spicy ginger flavor. Kind of a meh on the whole thing, doesn’t really jive with the IPA IMHO OK?

Bomber from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours coppery gold with a white head. Light ginger aroma. Med body or so. Flavor is tea, with a little ginger, and somewhat roasty malt. Needs more ginger - tho the tea is making up for that - if it’s not "real" tea, it’s fairly similar. Guess the ginger provide a substitute for bitter. It’s ok, but I was hoping for more ginger.

Marshmallow peeps, rosehips, strawberries, grass, and pine bouquet. Crystal clear amber, thick yellow lacy head. Ginger and yeast, dry, bitter grapefruit zest accents. Rosehip appears upon warming. Medium body, soft carbonation. I like a bit sweeter malt structure, particularly when spices or other additives are used, but this is still a wonderful beer.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/6/2016. Pours slightly hazy orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, ginger, pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of bright citrus/pine hops and moderate ginger/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, ginger, pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange rind, ginger, pepper, pine, light caramel/bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/piney hops and moderate ginger/bready malt flavors; with great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, sticky/resinous, and lightly creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding spiced IPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/piney hops and moderate ginger/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. The ginger wasn’t overdone at all in this, and the flavor blended extremely well with the resin/spicy C hop flavors all around. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bomber shared by gorditoabd. Pours a clear orangish gold with a thin head and aromas of pine, passion fruit and a hint of ginger that fades in and out over time. Sometimes it is heavy... Sometimes it is almost absent. Flavor starts out with a lovely IPA and finishes with ginger. It’s ok, but I’m not sure the ginger is a positive here. It’s interesting and I’m happy to have had it, but I’m not sure this is one I will revisit.

On tap at Winco. Big foamy head on pour, orange/amber body. Ginger dominates the aroma, pretty much all you can smell. IPA tastes temper the ginger, but still accentuates the hops. Already a pretty solid IPA, the ginger is a nice distraction, and addition, to this brew.

Draft pour pint at special brews. Part of the ballast point brewers night. Pours a clear copper color with a lasting fizz head. Aroma heavy with bitter hops and orange fruit. Flavor has just enough ginger to be noticeable and not enough to be annoying. Ginger can totally be that annoying friend that hangs around past their welcome. Overall a fun tasty drinkable IPA. I can see myself enjoying this with some sushi.
