We take our year-round production Big Eye IPA and infuse fresh skinned, sliced ginger root into the beer post fermentation. The spicy Centennial hops used in Big Eye go very well with the spicy taste and aromatics from the fresh ginger root. The solid malt backbone of Big Eye also lends itself well to ginger, almost adding a candied component as it blends across your palate.

4 oz pour on draft at ChurchKey shared by Travlr, thanks! Listed as Big Eye with fresh ginger root. Clear golden amber with off-white head. Aromas of big fresh ginger, herbs. Tastes of floral notes and ginger. Medium body with a dry finish. Nice gingery aroma but doesn’t mesh as well on the taste for me.

Draft at Churchkey. Clear golden color. Fresh herbal aroma. Taste is on the sweet side, and ginger is not overwhelming.

Pours deep gold into a tumbler. White head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Ginger and spice aromas. Thick with sweet and hot ginger upfront turning to resin in the lasting hot finish.

Draft @ The Stein & Vine.

Taster at the brewery. Copper color with small white ring. Fresh ginger nose. Taste is gingery, a bit malty, but the ginger dominates. A strong punch. Herbal finish. Very intense. Not 100% my cup of tea.

On tap at Chuck's, pours a hazy copper orange with a small white head. Aroma is huge on the ginger - not getting any hop characteristic. Flavour reveals dominating ginger notes - maybe a touch of hops. Very fresh ginger notes. Not really my thing, but this is executed very well.

[2/20/15] Draught at Ballast Point Old Grove in San Diego. As Big Eye IPA Ginger. Clear golden. Big ginger aroma with a bit of hops in the back. Spicy flavor with lots of ginger, some citric hops and some bitterness. Medium-bodied. Really not my thing.

Keg at OB Noodle House, Cable St OB, 13/11/14 as ’ginger’. Rich amber with reddish hues topped with a moderate off white to light beige covering. Nose is candied fruit peels, big root ginger, brown sugar, perfumed notes. Taste comprises floral hop, ginger, spice, caramel, bitter orange, red grapefruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with prominent ginger notes tempered with hop bitterness. Not bad for a gingerfied beer.
