Cherry Lambic Sour Ale

Winner of a gold medal at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival, Transatlantique Kriek begins its life in oaken vessels of Gert Christiaens’ Oud Beersel, a 130-year-old lambic brewery in the Zenne valley of Belgium – home of authentic Lambic beer. After time spent aging in wood, Oud Beersel’s lambic is blended with tart Polish cherries and shipped across the Atlantic to New Belgium. In concert with Oud Beersel’s cherry lambic, or Kriek, we blend an equal portion of golden sour ale matured for 1 – 3 years in our oak vessels called foeders. 50% Sour Golden Ale blended with 50% Traditional Cherry Lambic Ale leads to an intense cherry nose, a sour flash across the palate and a refreshing, mouthwatering finish.

Split a bottle of this. Poured a ruby, vibrant red color with a small pink white head. Aroma was some sweet fruits, candy sugar notes. Flavor is sweet, sugar filled cherry notes. Flavor is sweet notes, dried fruits. Alcohol is a little noticeable. This was good, but it could have been even better.

Bottle. Slightly funky tart cherry aroma. Deep ruby with a moderate pink head. Tart cherry, light funk, and woody spice flavor, and just the barest hint of bitterness in the finish. Body on the light side of medium, lively carbonation. I never thought I’d say this, but I think I’d like it just a tad sweeter. Still, not too bad

Complex cherry nose, sour, black and even maraschino. Clear ruby red, thin pink head. Flavor is mainly sour cherry and cobweb. Black cherry makes a brief appearance. Lactic finish. Quite good.

Bomber. Pours a gorgeous ruby red with a collapsing purple head; leaves a skiff of big-bubbly foam and a little lace. Aroma is strong in cherries, the flesh and the pits, some lambic funk. Taste is mostly sour but not mouth-puckering; finishes dry. Body seems a little thin. Nice enough.

Bottle - Raspberry/cherry and very sweet. Cloudy red thin non existent head. Not a bad Kriek, everything you would normally expect. Not too strong, a great entry into the style.

Bomber. Pours a cloudy ruby with medium frothy white head leaving good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a strong cherry, cereal, and funk. Thin mouthfeel with a strong tart and cherry flavor with light sourness in the finish. Alcohol well hidden making it easy to drink, a very good fruit beer from New Belgium.

Bottle at Toronado. Nice sour cherry nose,, with some vanilla. Salmon-orange-pink color. Flavors of cherry, cream, very mild and fruity. Not very sour at all. Tasty but not exciting. Can’t taste the Boon lambic.
