Cherry Lambic Sour Ale
Winner of a gold medal at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival, Transatlantique Kriek begins its life in oaken vessels of Gert Christiaens’ Oud Beersel, a 130-year-old lambic brewery in the Zenne valley of Belgium – home of authentic Lambic beer. After time spent aging in wood, Oud Beersel’s lambic is blended with tart Polish cherries and shipped across the Atlantic to New Belgium. In concert with Oud Beersel’s cherry lambic, or Kriek, we blend an equal portion of golden sour ale matured for 1 – 3 years in our oak vessels called foeders. 50% Sour Golden Ale blended with 50% Traditional Cherry Lambic Ale leads to an intense cherry nose, a sour flash across the palate and a refreshing, mouthwatering finish.

22 fl oz bottle, courtesy of KimJohansen. Pours cloudy dark amber/reddish with a small pink head. Aroma is dry almondish cherry fruity. Acidic and dry cherry flavoured. Dry almondish note. Vague malt base. Mild wooden and citric finish. Vague acetone touch into the far finish.

Clear reddish with a tiny pinkish head. Sour aroma with cherries, almonds, barnyard and lacto notes. Flavour had sour cherries, brett, barnyard and lacto notes. Clearly a sour and not a fruit beer. When will the admins of this site find out.....? Finished sour. Get it?

Tasting at Papsø
Hazy red-amber color. Cherry aroma, some sweetness, cherry kernels. Weak body, with an underlying Ale, bland, and some cherry sourness; lemony and astringent but not really sour; and the Ale sweetness clashes with this. Strange, not appreciated.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of KimJohansen. Pours a hazy red with a small pinkish head. Really dirty aroma - lots of barnyard here. Medium body, dry cherries with an underlying sweetness. Slightly tart finish, but not openly sour. An interesting blend indeed. 230410

Deep ruby coloured with some cola highlights and a very thin off-white head that fades very fast. Aroma of cherries, yeast, malt, caramel and a touch of raisins and pitted fruits. Medium-bodied; Sweet chewy flavour with malt and some pungent vinegar and bitter nuts in the mix. Aftertaste shows some good pure cherry character and a mild amount of sweetness. Overall, a decent beer, but nothing amazing, and not as good as a typical belgian kriek. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased as part of the ’Lips of Faith’ collection, from Mondo Vino in Denver, Colorado on 12-February-2010, sampled later that day in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Bottle: Cherry aroma is mild at first, better after a fairly aggressive pour. Still, not a ton of cherries, but some malty sweetness. Sort of musty. Bright red color reminds me of Hawaiian Punch... large frothy pink head disapates quickly. Taste is crisp enough with fruity tartness, lightly sour, some faint florals, and a burst of musty malt in the end. Lots of tingly carbonation; if it weren’t for that, it could be considered a bit dull. Still, I guess this wasn’t a real zealous effort by NB...

Bottle or should I say bottles a 2004 vintage 12oz and a new 22oz lips of faith. I am don’t know how to rate this so I will just do a over view. new one first. Pours out red with a pink head. Aroma of light funk, cherries, and some tartness. Taste much the same. 2004 pours out more clear with a small head. Aroma was of sweet cherries and light tartness. Taste more of the sweetness and some wood. Thanks Toby and ditmier for the side by side.
