Cherry Lambic Sour Ale
Winner of a gold medal at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival, Transatlantique Kriek begins its life in oaken vessels of Gert Christiaens’ Oud Beersel, a 130-year-old lambic brewery in the Zenne valley of Belgium – home of authentic Lambic beer. After time spent aging in wood, Oud Beersel’s lambic is blended with tart Polish cherries and shipped across the Atlantic to New Belgium. In concert with Oud Beersel’s cherry lambic, or Kriek, we blend an equal portion of golden sour ale matured for 1 – 3 years in our oak vessels called foeders. 50% Sour Golden Ale blended with 50% Traditional Cherry Lambic Ale leads to an intense cherry nose, a sour flash across the palate and a refreshing, mouthwatering finish.

Lips of Faith Transatlantique @Tampa Wkly Gathering-22oz bottle–Thanks seabass-pours an off white ring for a head and red color. Aroma is dry, yeasty, medium malt, cherry. Taste is tart cherry, medium malt, vinegar.

Courtesy of sebletitje. It pours amber with pink-purple hues and white pinkish hued foam head. The aroma is fruit cake, cherries, a dash of cream soda and malts. The taste has a modestly sharp tart note that sort of becomes raspberry fruit tartness. It gets sweeter and a bit sticky by midway. It then evens out into the finish.

courtesy of vasdef42. Pours reddish, white head.Aroma some tart cherries, and nice sweet nose. Flavor, glacé cherries, light tart mouthfeel, hints of chocolate with abv adding a nice finish. Very straightforward with intense cherry palate, easy to drink and hints of booze and tart fruit finish.

Bottle from Liquor Max in Loveland. Pours a beautiful cherry/ruby with a nice pink head. Kind of cooking cherry aroma. Backed by some funky wood. Medium body with smooth carbonation. Not at all funky. Rather sweet cooking cherry. There’s an oxymoron. Somewhat tart, mildly sour. Suddenly some funky woodiness, but not a lot. Seems to bounce back and forth between tart and not so tart. Cherry does pervade everything. Beats the heck out of those overly sweet ales from Lindemans.

Bottle. Poured dark red with minimal head. Aroma was full of cherry notes, reminded me a bit of kool-aid. Flavor followed up the aroma with a kool-aid like flavor. Wasn’t really tart and wasn’t really sweet, kind of watered down. Seemed to be situated between a sweet kriek and a sour kriek. I really didn’t enjoy it.

It appears that I am the first one to have this as the part of the Lips of Faith series. I have never had the old one, so I cannot compare, but this is solid and what Lindemans should be...Also the bottle is 8%, not 6.3% so I don’t know if it belongs here. Pours with a vibrantly red (scary red), clear body with a small pink head. Aroma of sweet cherries, pie crust, cinnamon, and light tartness. Very pleasant. Taste is tart, but not sour, dry, real cherries up front, middle is black cherry juice and pulp, finish is sweet cherry pie and associated crust. Quite crisp. Finishes extremely dry and with low residual sugars. Was very hard to taste the oak, if there was any in this new version. Lively bubbles,dry mouthfeel.

Another treat provided by EDA @ JoeMcPhee’s tasting. Color is rose brown. Aroma is all cherry cough drops, dead on. The taste was similar with some dirt water flavor. It was interesting but I would not really use the word "good" to describe it but again I am damn glad I got to try it.

I’m not huge on lambics, but this seems to have everything in the right places for a kriek - attractive, deep red color - very musty aroma, with juicy cherries, lots of yeast - quite sour, but not as mouth puckering as other lambics I’ve had - a very woody character, lots of yeast again - kind of a thin finish, but still the mouth stays watering.
