Pours clear dark brown with a finger of light tan head. Aroma of toffee, vanilla, caramel, light bread, light banana, some basement aromas. Taste is big, bold butterscotch burnt butter sweet, long sweet finish. Body is rich and creamy although with very rich carbonation, which kind of pulls the entire package apart.

Pours a clear amber to reddish. Almost no head. Smells like port, karamel, roasted malts and wood. Taste is immediately the roasted malts, which is quite surprisingly. Ends somewhat acidic with sweet hints. Aftertaste is complete hop bitterness and little acidic.

(On tap) Slightly hazy, deep dark golden amber with an off-white almost beige head. Aroma of overripe fruit and alcohol. Quite full-bodied with sweetish overripe fruit, nuts and a distinct alcoholic finish. Some medicinal notes also. A little unrefined. 180908

(Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival, 19 Sep 2008) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of dried fruit (apricots, raisins) and rubbery hops. Rather vinous. Malty taste with dried fruit (apricots) and lots of spicy, earthy hops in the finish. Rather sweet and vinous. More than medium body. Powerful, but with a good balance and a nice hop character. Malty, fruity nose with notes of caramel, crisp-bread, prunes, raisins, dried apricots, earthy hops, hints of burnt rubber and a slight cellar aroma. Malty, fruit taste with caramel, raisins, prunes, dried apricots, dark bread, a touch of Madeira wine and a balanced bitterness with slightly earthy hops. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Well made and well balanced barley wine with a slight old ale character. Very nice.

2009-03-10, bottle at Nya Tröls, Malmö, 7-4-7-3-14=35
Hazy dark amber color; nice head. Medium aroma, sweet caramel, nutty. Good sweet caramel and malt flavor, correct bitterness. Side to side, less complex than the Munken.

2007-09-22, draught at Stockholm Beer Festival 2007, 7-5-8-4-16=40
Cloudy amber color; thin creamy head. Delicate malt aroma, lightly cheesy. Full bodied, very good malt flavor, immediately the alcohol fires up the guns, and the bitterness comes in to balance it, with a lot of oils; toffee, parmesan cheese too come to mind. Extremely powerful. Excellent.
