Ale aged in bourbon barrels with pineapple, vanilla, maple, and almond
This cuvée upended the competition at the Hoarders Cuvée blending tournament to be produced by The Bruery in 2017. Designed by Nathan Beckham and Alex Jacoby to mimic the flavors found in a pineapple upside-down cake, this cuvée is cast in a thick layer of our bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout, Black Tuesday, and a sticky-sweet glaze from other bourbon barrel-aged ales, including Mash, poured over pineapples. We then mix in vanilla, maple and almond flavors to create an incomparable cuvée that melts in your mouth. This is not your mama's pineapple upside down cake. Store it cool and let it warm before serving.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 10/2017. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep golden/orange/amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour/tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, citrus peel/zest, cherry, peach, plum, pear, pineapple, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, vanilla, cream, wheat, and white bread; with lighter notes of bourbon, peppercorn, leathery/musty/lacto funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, lemon zest, vanilla, bourbon/oak barrels, and moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with big strength. Taste of big sour/tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, citrus peel/zest, cherry, peach, plum, pear, pineapple, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, vanilla, cream, wheat, and white bread; with lighter notes of bourbon, peppercorn, leathery/musty/lacto funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang; light citrus peel bitterness, and yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/sour lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, citrus peel/zest, cherry, peach, plum, pear, pineapple, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, oak, hay, straw, grass, vanilla, cream, wheat, white bread, peppercorn, leathery/musty/lacto funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, lemon zest, vanilla, bourbon/oak barrels, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with a fantastic malt/tart/sourness, tangy fruit, and yeast/oak spiciness balance; with no puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sourness, tangy fruit, and yeast/oak spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and acidic/tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.2%. Overall this is an outstanding fruited sour/wild ale. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, lemon zest, vanilla, bourbon/oak barrels, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, easy, and fairly crisp to drink with the mellowly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish; not overly lactic. Awesome balanced juicy/jammy citrus, Brett/Lacto complexity, and bourbon/oak presence; with great vanilla, and pale/wheat malts against acidity. Light residual sweetness with crisp acidic/tangy dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example as expected.

Sample at KurtKeller 030: Bruery-tastic 03 (+CYBP) on 04/20/2019. Slightly cloudy reddish-gold color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lace. Aroma of bourbon, citrus, oak and vanilla. Medium to full body with flavors of oaky bourbon, lemon, vanilla and malt. The finish is oaky with a boozy lemon meringue pie aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Good cream-coloured head over hazy pinkish ochre beer. Serious alcoholic nose with Bourbon, vanilla, fresh green exotic leaves, seedpods, citruspeel. Vanilla aroma just keeps coming. Sweet-sourish, Bourbon finished. Excellent balance for the three main vectors, which is rare for Bruery. Alcoholheat, quite slick to viscous, but thanks to the acids not really full bodied. One of the few really balanced Terreux. Thanks to whomever brought it along.

At VVvVVVV. Pours unclezr blonde to amber. No real head. Smell is tart, oily, bit vanilla. Taste is tart, mild aromatic ( fruity) with a background of vanilla. Not bad but it kinda gets a air-freshener aroma in the end result. OK, but not great.

Bottle thanks to William. Pours a cloudy orange copper with small white head that lasts. The aroma is citrus, oak, bourbon, vanilla. Slick body, lemon zest, oak, nice tartness, enjoyed this.
