Very full bodied, rich and sweet with a higher bitterness to provide balance. Bursting with malty, biscuity and fruit cake character from the mixture of pale, amber and crystal malts. Masses of tropical fruits and floral fragrance from the hops, in particular the fragrant, floral and spicy Fuggles used as late hop together with extra Challenger, Pilgrim and First Gold. Very complex, rich and warming.
MALT: Pale, crystal, amber.

Bottle from Tesco. Poured a crystal clear amber with a frothy white head and plenty of bubbles. The aroma is sweet malt, resin hop. The flavour is moderate sweet, light bitter with a smooth malt woody resin hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Bottle from Tesco and drunk at home. Now I do like this on cask. Clear bottle doesn’t bode well. Clear mahogany colour with lasting beige head. Bit of GK yeast aroma, sweetish fruity malty aroma, promise of a little peppery hop. Sweetish toffee. This bottle version is decent. Not quite as good as the cask version, but it has similar aspects. It’s drier in the mouth than the aroma suggests. It’s nutty, which you do get with that GK yeast on some of their beers. Peppery hop finish. Not sure what this sausage is supposed to be. Tesco New York sausage. Hmmm. I may have to jetison the sausage, some smoke it’s a bit like polony sausage. Back to the beer. Yes I still like it, even in a clear glass bottle. It’s sweet, dry, fruity, hoppy, satisfying. Good.

Bottle that Dad shared- cheers! Deep amber with a thin off-white head. Too fizzy, although there’s a reasonable body behind the fizz. Sweet fruit and toffee up front, then a dry wheat-chaff finish. Easy drinking for a strong beer, but that’s because tastewise it underperforms. Nevertheless its reasonably pleasant.

Bottled. Pale copper colour with a small slightly off-white head, that doesn’t last all too long. Aroma is caramel malts, some grains, mild floral notes as well as some slight honey. Flavour is caramel malts, mild nutty notes as well as some floral and grassy notes. As it warms up it gets a bit sugary sweet, but at the same time it also gets some slight metallic notes to it. Anyhow, while being somewhat 12-ish degrees C, it’s actually quite a pleasant one.

Copper colour, one finger thick beige head turning into a film. Aroma of caramel, bisquits, dryed fruit, grassy notes. Full body, thick texture. The taste has first lots of caramel sweetness then smooth alcohol notes come up. The finish offers long grassy feeling. A bit predictable but nevertheless very good. The palate is amazing for the ABV of 6.5.

Bottle. Pours dark amber with small white head. Aroma is sweet malt, lots of caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon cookies, fudge, plums and hints of lemon. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter and faint acidic. Body is oily with good carbonation. Finish is long and balanced bitter/sweet with notes of caramel, nuts, cookies, ripe fruit, hints of mint, cream and caramelized sugar (creme brulee, maybe)? Very well balanced.

Bottle from Asda. Copper with no head. Clear bottle but no sign of the usual skunky affected aroma or taste because of it. Not as strong tasting as it threatens to be with sticky sweetness throughout.

Clear amber, stable offwhite head. Strong aroma: malt, caramel, wood. Flavour is similar with boozy alcohol. Soft mouthfeel but finish is a little rough.

From a pint bottle brought to me by a friend from England. Pours a clear amber with an off white head. Malty nose. Light raisin flavors. Moderate carbonation. Crisp finish.
