Remnant from the old Morlands Abingdon Brewery now brewed in Bury st Edmunds.
A smooth-tasting, cask-conditioned ale enhanced to offer an elegant happy floral nose, a nutty malty palate and a lingering malty sweetness.

12 ounce bottle from Market Street Wineshop Downtown Charlottesville, VA. Pours an amber color with a large, creamy head. Good retention and very nice lacing. Very malty and slightly grainy aroma with the faintest hint of hops. The taste is very similar, but with some toffee and a tart finish. Creamy mouthfeel and medium bodied. Finally, a beer from Greene King that doesn’t completely suck.

Full pint hand pulled from cask outdoor seating at The Jolly Sailor in Maldon. Clear, deep brown body colour under a thin, bubbly head. Hints of plain malt to the nose. Malty flavoured character with dark caramel and a note of resin. Light bitter ending (05.05.2008).

Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen. An amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and fruit - especially oranges. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel as well as lighter notes of fruit, wood, and flowers. The body is thin.

12 oz bottle from Country Club Liquors; gusher right out the bottle top; dark copper with a huge beige head; Nose of light caramel with a little skunky, "off" note; flavor was caramel with only a tiny amount of background bitterness; I am not overly impressed! 4/17/08 4/4/5/2/9 2.4 12 oz bottle from GM Liquors; got a non skunked bottle! Nose of light caramel and a grassy, nutty hoppiness; No gusher this time; lightly hazy copper with a small beige head; flavor a good balance of hop bitterness and caramel malt and a light fruity note! Much better!

Clear bottle, I picked from the shaded rear of the shelf at Total Wine and managed to minimize skunking, but not totally eliminate it. Aroma starts with that mild familiar sulfur component, surrounded by a light grassy hoppiness and grainy caramelized malts. Mouthfeel is soft with light carbonation. Flavor is restrained with just a kiss of biscuity malts, lightly spiced with hops, and a balanced finish. At 4.4% this is totally drinkable and could make a pretty respectable session beer. I would really like to try the cask version. Not much head, bright dark amber color.
