From plan to pour, we kept this brew true to form and adhered to traditional measures and methods wherever possible. We sourced semi-early red-bine Saaz hops from the region formerly known as Bohemia, used water softened through reverse osmosis, and even ordered traditional Czech taps to top things off.

Stylistically the beer is the Czech equivalent of a
dark lager ranging in character from Munich Dunkel to
Schwarzbier, but typically with greater malt richness and hop
character (aroma, flavor, and/or bitterness).

On tap at Luppolo. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Earthy, nutty nose with some dry grass. Flavour has a fairly thin, earthy nuttiness with little Saaz or carbonation to back it up. It's fine as a dark lager, but a bit disappointing as a Czech style.

Dark brown, with a thick head. Aroma is rich, chocolate, toast. Medium body, the malt complexity seems perhaps more muted on the palate than the nose. So it’s not bad… good body, maybe not as sweet as I’d like but that’s also because I have a sweet tooth. The beer for what it is, it’s solid beer.

473ml can. Pours a clear dark brown with red hue and a medium, creamy, short lived, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, fig, raisin and earthy yeast. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, fig, plum, raisin and earthy yeast in a crisp, dry, bitter coffee finish. Medium body with a creamy, smooth texture and average carbonation. Flavourful and easy to drink. I would really like to try this on tap.
