Saison Vieille. Inspired by native ingredients we found during a local hike in Colorado, this beer won best of show in the "Beers Made by Walking" competition in 2012. Our use of amaranth grain imparts a toasty presence in the malt bill, mustard seed lends a nice spiciness to the beer that is balanced with a light citrus from lemon grass and an implied dried cherry essence from the use of rose hips.

375ml bottle. Pours a cloudy gold-orange with a large, frothy, mostly lasting, white head that laces nicely. Sweet, spicy, fruity aroma of orange, lemon, coriander, pepper, floral, Belgian yeast and grainy malt. Sweet, spicy, fruity flavour of grainy malt, bread, orange, lemon, tangerine, floral, herbal, pepper, coriander and Belgian yeast with a slightly tart, dry, bitter grass finish. Light body with a watery texture and average carbonation. Well balanced, not bad.

Tasting at Matt’s
Cloudy blond color. American Saison, loaded with vegetables, starting from the aroma; also some coriander aroma. Too much carbonation, the mouthfeel is very dry, traces of vegetables, nasty anise.
Very bad American fake Saison.

Cloudy, light tan. Dusty yeast with a touch of spice. Peppery character and a bit fecal, quite yeasty. The pale malts are not that bright, maybe a bit sweet. Spicy and with some hop dryness, but lacking brightness.

375mL bottle, pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out cereal malts, saison yeast and lots of residual sweetness. Flavour is very dry and toasted, with lots of toasted grains, saison yeast, and residual sweetness. Dry, toasted and with light residual sweetness. Not very deep or complex. Meh.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s Fort Collins. Pours a fairly cloudy yellow appearance with a white head that surprisingly doesn’t have a ton of retention. Grassy herbal, slight veggie, doughy / toasted malty aroma. Twangy spicy flavor. Pretty chewy and husky. Floral notes. Some cooked corn notes. Really not that good. Scroll past.
