Ovaltine, light roast, bit of choc, feels a bit like a dubbel. Not much lager feel. But it is quite nice.

Dark brown colour, uneven off-white head. Aroma's of toasted malts, light hopbitter. Flavour is light sweet and light bitter. Light bodied. Finishes moderate bitter. Perhaps not really authentic, but nice anyway.

On tap at Cafe Sara. Deep dark brownish body, patchy surface, laces fine. Roasted malty aromas, with scent of caramel. Caramel malty flavours, supported by bread, and ripe fruity notes. Nice roasted bitter tail. Fine partner to my mixed grill dish. (Oslo 28.11.2022).

The old Münchener Dunkel, the world’s oldest Lager style (by far), as interpreted by London superstar The Kernel; sampled at BCBF. Off-white, moussy, thinning but generally stable head, clear bronze-brown robe with amberish tinge. Aroma of damp tree leaves, wet toast, hard caramel, rainwater, breakfast cereals, tea bags. Clean onset, medium carbonation, smooth and supple peanutty, ‘unsweet’-caramelly and slightly toasty malts graced with herbal, bit tea-ish hop bitterishness in the finish – a bitterness remaining well in balance with the nutty, toasty character of the malts. Decent for sure, simple as expected (structurally speaking), but effective and enjoyable, though far from the best Dunkel I had to date – I do not believe classic German Lager styles are Kernel’s forte…

Clear copper, off white head. Aroma of malt, bread crust and whisky barrel. Taste is an explotion of malty delight, with a citric end and great spruce sprout hoppy ending.
