The First release in our “New Orthodox” IPA series, M-43 is designed to accentuate the deep and complex character from the combination of Calypso, Amarillo, Citra, and Simcoe hops. Citrus and Tropical notes of Pineapple, Mango and Grapefruit come through in the huge, yet surprisingly delicate aroma. The flavor backs these aromas with a soft, pillowy mouthfeel. Hop bitterness is not particularly intense, which leads to a very drinkable, juicy IPA even non-IPA fans love. The Haze is not from yeast, but rather from an interplay of lipids from the malted oat and oils and acids which naturally occur in the hand selected Dry hops. This beer is a perfect interplay between top grade malt and hops, MI water and brewing technique which cannot be faked.

On keg at Brewdog Lothian Rd, Edinburgh. Appearance - cloudy yellow to orange. Thin white head. Nose - mostly citrus. Orange I think. Taste - yep orange confirmed. Light resin. Palate - light bodied and tangy through middle and finish. Overall - it's a little but single dimensional but the one dimension is very good.

Keg at BD Castlegate. It pours crazy cloudy golden with a dissipating white head. The aroma is fresh and juicy, orangey, tangerine, kumquat, peach, mango, green, weedy, gummy bears and hint of bubblegum. The taste is firmly dry, green, good deal of bitterness, touch of rawness, weedy, pithy, zesty citrus, orangey, kumquat, tangerine, grapefruit, warming booze, nips of spice, pine and some minerals with a dry, spicy finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Really nice fruity and green vibes. Some rawness detracts from the overall experience, but it's good nonetheless.

Shaker pint draft at the Moose Preserve Bar & Grill in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The pour is super cloudy looks like cloudy grapefruit juice, with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet orange and pineapple citrus, touch of cereal malt. The taste is the sweet citrus softly bitter hops, pineapple and finished with mild cereal malt grain. The palate is light to medium bodied, low carbonation, murky mouth feel. Went way too sweet for my tastes.

13 April 2019. At First Timternational Beer Tasting, Ghent. Cheers to Ghent beer crew! Pours hazy ochre with a thin, unstable, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of ripe pineapple, peach, yellow nectarine, onion, fruity yoghurt, lemon, dough. Taste is medium fruity sweet, lots of ripe peach, pineapple, a bit yoghurty with a sourish edge of lime & wheat; hoppy bitter tones of yellow grapefruit, mandarin peel, onion, vaguely grainy too. Dryish, floral hoppy finish, more ripe yellow fruit, a tad piney. Medium body, slick-fluffy texture, soft carbonation. Straightforward NEIPA but I can’t be discontented about that.

Hazy IPA from a brewpub in Michigan, can shared at First Great Timternational Beer Geek Tasting hosted by tderoeck in Ghent. Loose, egg-white, bubbly, quickly opening head on a cloudy, milky yolk-yellow robe. Aroma of mango juice, ripe pineapple, passionfruit, lychee, mandarin peel, dough, sweet red onions, green olive, marihuana, guava. Sweet and sourish onset, a ton of juicy hop fruitiness hinting at mango, pineapple, granadilla and guava, very tropical, very soft mouthfeel with matching soft carbonation, fluffy malt sweet body soaked in tropical hoppiness, citrusy and mango-like with again these guava- and passionfruit-like fragrance, medium long in the end but only gently bittering and thus the emphasis remains firmly on sheer juiciness. Very accomplished in its style of juicy hop bombs, very typical NEIPA even if brewed far from New England (though still in the northeastern part of the U.S.).
