Bottle from Westhill Service Station. It pours clear rich mahogany brown with a small white head. The aroma is sweet, toothy, brown bread, malt loaf, currants, raisin, fruit bread, toffee and wood. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, toothy, chewy, brown bread, malt loaf, earthy, currants, raisin, toothy, tannin, touch of boozy warmth, leather, nip of spice and earth with a drying, toothy finish. Fulsome body and fine carbonation. A well presented and crafted doppelbock.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. It's as good as they all say it is. Lovely fruity sweet caramel notes up front, then some cherry and leather at the back. Perfect for a winter's night.

Bottle from Cork & Cask. Hazy amber body with a thin off-white head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Faint lacing. Aroma of chocolate and pine. Flavour of caramel and raisins. Medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. A good example of one of my favourite beer styles - lighter than some Doppelbocks but not lacking the characteristic sweetness.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - a beautiful autumnal red wth an attractive beige head. Nose - brown bread, toffee, fruitcake. Taste - toffee, dried orange and malt loaf. Again cakey and there's a hint of red fruit. Palate - medium bodied, rich sweet/creamy texture. Light roast dryness at the back. Overall - great beer.
