Found this beauty at the LCBO in a 6-pack. Pours a clean amber-copper colour with a light beige head that is smaller than expected, but stays a while and creates a bit of lacing. Nice grainy and darker malt aromas. Matly taste with hints of oranges and a nutty finish. Good decent grain (rye) long lasting in the aftertaste. This is a pretty nice refreshing Oktoberfest brew from a big brewery I like.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into a shaker. Pours a clear copper with a half finger of off-white head. Aroma of caramel and slight hops. Taste is light bitter and light sweet. Medium bodied with a creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, pretty good. I would drink it again.

Clear orange amber beer, small creamy yellowish head, pretty stable and adhesive with nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: nothing. Pretty weird. MF: too much carbon, light to medium body. Taste: sour lemony start (from the carbon?), bitter orange peel, some toasted malts, bitter hops taking over pretty fast and overwhelming every other flavour. Aftertaste: bitter hops, bit sour.

33 cl bottle from Systembolaget. Clear, amber liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma is malty and a bit earthy with notes of caramel, toffee, earthy hops, noble hops and nutty malt. Taste is light sweet, malty and medium bitter. Quite balanced. Somewhat biscuity. Light to medium bodied with nice carbonation. Overall, balanced and well tasting oktoberfestbier.

Bärnstensfärgad vätska med medelstort skum av små bubblor som lägger sig till ett lock. Söt doft av ljung, honung och höstlöv. Maltig kropp med söta toner, men även humlen får ta plats. Tycker humlen har engelsk karaktär och beskan balanserar sötman fint. Sammantaget lite sötmurrigt åt bockhållet, men välbalanserat.

Enjoyed at the Brick House in Niles, IL with some co-workers while celebrating a company softball team championship. Unfortunately I didn’t take notes on this, but I remember it going down smooth, being a little thin, but still enjoyable. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it, but for the moment it was pretty good.

On tap at a chain restaurant, the best beer on the menu. Came served in a 16 oz mug, an amber orange color with a minimal tan wisp of a head that was gone before my lips touched the rim of the glass. Smell is bready malty with an earthy herbal hop presence. Smells a bit sweet. Taste is bready and mildly malty with an herbal hop bite to keep it from being too sweet. Medium body and carbonation with a slick sweet mouthfeel. Decent beer, but their are certainly better beers in the style. I would drink this again given the choices I had tonight but would easily skip this in a better venue

Pours a deep amber with lots of orange tint to it. The head fades quickly. Sweet malty aroma with a flavor that follows. Simple straighforward malty ’Fest beer.

Honestly, after all these years, I still like Sam Adams Octoberfest, Sure, I only buy one sixer a year, but I always look forward to it, like a rite of passage, welcoming in the Fall. Granted, Fall in Charleston lasts two weeks in late November, but that’s plenty of time to get in six bottles of Sam’s Octoberfest. Nutty, malty, caramel-sweet yet moderately so, without any European funk to ruin the carefully balanced malt-and-hop finish. I’m not the best judge of Oktoberfestbiers, since I generally poo-poo them, but Sam’s take on the style does alright by me. (9/08)
