Doomed by a love of pitch-black Porters and our Allagash House Beer, we summoned the recipe for Haunted House. Roasted Barley and Blackprinz malt curse this beer with a gravely dark hue. Hopped with Tettnang, Chinook, and Saaz hops, this beer ends with a ghost of coffee-flavored bitterness and hauntingly complex malty palate.
Grains: Allagash 2-Row Malted Barley Blend, Victory, Carapils, Raw Wheat, Roasted Barley, Blackprinz
Hops: Nugget, Cascade, Northern Brewer
Yeast: House

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home during a job transition period. This is pretty delicious, nice balance between chocolate and hoppy, without being very sweet. Would absolutely have this again.

Can, from Trader Joe's. Pours dark brown with red highlights against the light, large spongy tan head, sweet roasted malt aroma, low carbonation, initially sweet coffee latte taste with medium bitterness seeping in, mocha flavor. somewhat thick body, long finish. Satisfyingly thick and tasty.

Pour is a black with a large foamy mocha head. Aroma is some minor roast and black tea with some green leaf hop. Flavor is a dry and bitter char malt with a mild green hop and finishes with lots of that charred bitterness on the tongue. This was pretty good. Lots of black malty flavor with a slight bitter hop.

Can from Cap Tap. Pours black with a creamy light tan head. Aroma of chocolate and dark malt. Med body or so. Flavor is burnt malt, dark chocolate, grass, citrus. Very dry. Yeast and clove notes - but very light. Maybe some coffee or possibly that's bitterness from chocolate. Dry and very tasty. Lots of flavor. Bitter in a very Belgian way. Excellent.

$3.65 pint can, WW. Pours dark brown, not quite black, with a soft tan head. Creamy chocolates, roasted malt, barley, brown leaf, light char, earth aroma. Flavor is chocolate, coffee grounds, roasted malt, toasted barley, earth, char... lingering flavor of dry coffee and barley. Very nice. I'm enjoying the hell out of this.
