Doomed by a love of pitch-black Porters and our Allagash House Beer, we summoned the recipe for Haunted House. Roasted Barley and Blackprinz malt curse this beer with a gravely dark hue. Hopped with Tettnang, Chinook, and Saaz hops, this beer ends with a ghost of coffee-flavored bitterness and hauntingly complex malty palate.

Can from the Packie. Dark brown in color with faint ruby at the edges and a creamy off white head that persists. Roasty earthy clove and spice on the nose. Light fruit and pepper added to the flavor. Pretty tasty hoppy Belgian dark.

Taster pour from can at NH Brewfest. Appearance is very dark brown, almost opaque black, with 1/2-finger width light brown head with no discernible sparkle and mild lacing. Aroma is earthy, roasted, mildly tart. Taste is as aroma though roastiness is a little higher in the mix initially while back half is tart/earthy dominant. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with smooth, somewhat meaty texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, dominant roasted malts but with fairly strong tart balance. Not tremendous but fairly good.

16 ounce can. Barely translucent dark brown color. Haunting clinging lace. Large foamy tan head. Decent roasted malt aroma hints at coffee and fresh earth. Complex roasted malt flavor has earthy, yeasty notes. Lightly bitter coffee and treacle as well. Wonderfully complex and refined. Another winner fron Allagash.

Pours mahogany tinged black into a snifter. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes to coat surface. Chocolate and espresso aromas. Rich with dark chocolate and earth upfront turning to dark resin in the lasting finish.

7 oz pour shared at Snallygaster 2018. Dark brownish black with tan head. Aromas of roast, dark chocolate. Tastes of dark chocolate, roast, floral, light funk. Medium body with a dry finish.

Draft pour at Snallygaster 2018. Poured a super dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. Aroma was super roasted notes, with some light chocolate. Light roast, chocolate. Pretty tasty.

I love Allagash but this is not their best showing. Some leather, a bit of florals. Pours dark brown with ok head and lacing. Bittersweet and caramel finish, but rather watery in aroma. Tap at Snally.

Draught at Canary Square, 10/10 and 10/12/18.
Seems opaque. Ebony. Light tan head fades slowly to ring.
Smells like a porter. Some fruity, cherry-like ester. Low roast, some fudge and vanilla add heft and depth. Light soap/chemical is most likely the bar's fault, and sure enough wasnt present on 10/12.
Fudgey but not too sweet. Very chewy to sticky but still great attenuation. Low but tight carbonation. Brown sugar, milk chocolate and tootsie roll. Definitely was expecting a dark belgian ale not so much a foreign stout. It's fine, though and not too bitter or roasty. The tootsie roll character would get old fast, however. One glass was fine.

12 oz. Purchased at the brewery with an ABV of 6.66, well that’s funny. No bottle date code. I wasn’t expecting a porter! Deep dark brown color with a blackness in the center. Aroma is mild Belgian yeast, burnt grains, earthy malts maybe chocolate. But mostly earthy notes.
Flavor has roasted gain base, texture is gritty. Charred ash with unsweetened baker chocolate. Some herbal bitterness in the finish. Almost to much bitterness. The flavors don’t meld together very well. It’s really like this brew doesn’t know what it wants to be Belgian ale, Porter or black IPA. I didn’t have any expectations or even knew what it was when I poured it into my glass. Funny thing is I still don’t know what it is.

Bottle @ Steve_0, thanks thanks to Lukaduke. Pours a deep brown / black appearance with a dark brown head. Roasted malt, light coffee, chocolate, pine / spruce, and pepper in the nose. Medium body. Pretty low sweetness, moderate bitterness. Plenty of piney chocolate goodness like a black ipa. A little chalky. A little burnt. Fine session brew.
