After checking out the Iowa Taproom, my sister–my little sister, mind you–wanted to finish off with me and her daughter at Peace Tree's Des Moines tap room. 8 oz. snifter with an orangey brown color. Smell is mostly malty, with the rye whisky settling nicely in the background. Taste is just a bit thick, and there's a fine malty backbone with just a bit of whiskey headiness. Much more of an impressive red ale than a barrel-aged beer.

Bottle @ the rake dungeon, big thanks to pepsiedcan and the state of Iowa for the cred boost. Pours a touch hazy, ruby red/orange appearance with a thin light brown head. Heavy whiskey and booze in the nose. Lots of grainy wood, tannins, vanilla, and oak to go along with some caramel and grassy hops. A little twangy. Pretty high booze. The flavor is also pretty overwhelmed by the barrel character. Lots of vanilla and oak. Kind of thin. Moderately high sweetness and moderate bitterness. Warm finish. Ehhh.

Taken from notes:
On draft at blue moon brewpub in Omaha Nebraska. It is a cloudy amber color with a slight head. The aroma is Bourbon smell and the taste is strong Bourbon flavor with slight raspberry notes
