2018 gabf gold. Pretty good red, bright, a bit too bitter in a harsh way. But for a style that’s hard to do right, it’s good. Golden city golden CO

Sample at the taproom. Clear reddish-amber color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes quickly to a wispy film. Short strings of lace. Roast malt, fruit and hops in the nose. Light-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, earthy hop and fruit. The finish is sweet with a short malty aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

On tap at the brewery, GABF week 2014. I did not know exactly what kind of beer this was while drinking it, but i did not think altbier. Mild malt aroma and flavor. Low carbonation, not too heavy on the palate making it easy to drink, but I thought more of a red ale than an alt.

Tap @ Golden City Brewery. Clear, dark burnt orange appearance with an off white head. Toasty caramel malty, toffee, straw aroma. Low carbonation. A bit citrusy, hay, straw, toffee, caramel flavor. Alright but boring.

Tap at the brewpub. Amber with creamy off-white head. Light malty aroma. Med body/fizzy carb. Flavor is roast malt with a lot of hop bitter.

Tap at My Brother’s Bar - cloudy dark red - they nailed the style fairly well on this one, but some flaws keep it from being great - a fairly sturdy, sweet malt base, with notes of toffee and caramel - moderate hop bitterness - a sort of astringent, metallic character through the middle keeps it from being as enjoyable as it could be - lingering, sticky malt sweetness - fairly robust - okay.
