On tap at the brewery. Aroma is very raspberry forward with a a balanced chocolate note and light roast character. Really reminds of the aroma of a raspberry truffle with a hint of coffee. Pours dark brown, but not quite black with a moderately thick dark mocha head with just a touch of a pink hue. Rather nice retention. Flavor is slightly sweet with a moderate amount of raspberry. Light roast and chocolate character, but the dark malts are more prevalent in the aroma. Fairly light bitterness without and alcohol or hop flavors. Mouthfeel is fairly light bodied and a touch watery with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, while fairly good, I can’t help but wish this was a bigger beer with more mouthfeel and more chocolate. The aroma makes me wish this wan an imperial stout instead if a dry stout.

Tap @ Twisted Pine. Black appearance with a dark brown head. Rich, fresh raspberry puree, dark chocolate, a bit tart/tangy aroma. Low carbonation. Deep espresso, hershey’s dark chocolate, sweet raspberry fruity, roasty flavor. One of the best I’ve ever had from these guys.

Pours looking a bit like cola, but the lace is thick enough to keep it from looking unappealing - tart raspberry hits the nose first - some chocolate, espresso, and roasted malt try to break through that, but simply remain in the background - I like raspberry a lot, though, so it doesn’t bother me - the flavor is kind of the opposite of this - coffee is evident first, followed by some bittersweet chocolate flavors - moderate raspberry character arrives through the middle - a touch of tartness - gets water through the middle, and sadly, remains that way - some bitterness from the coffee punches back through - watery finish - meh.

tap at the brewpub - The bartender told me this beer is their raspberry plus their imperial porter blended and kegged for a couple weeks. It pours very dark brown and the aroma is mostly raspberries. The flavor has some dark roast malt, but again the raspberries dominate it. It’s medium bodied and quite drinkable though in my opinion the porter alone is better. I suspect they used more raspberry ale than they did porter.
