Bottle thanks to Josiah. Pours a very dark brown with no head. The aroma is strong smoke, brandy, wood, roast. Medium mouthfeel with nice smoke, sweetness from brandy, very impressive.

Draught at EBF on 3/22/14
Dark mahogany to ebony brown body has a very voluminous head of tan nature displaying strong retention. Clarity is indiscernible.
Very little cognac in the nose, which is nice as that’s a pretty strong characteristic. Maybe some sweet, grainy, candied grape-like notes on the finish, upon warming, but the main force of the beer seems to be a strong caramel-toffee sweet maltiness with plentiful roast and some dry vanilla and drying bitterness from the hops. Green, rather juicy and not tacky or resinous, thankfully. Tending on the sweet side, though not really underattenuated or anything, just a rather thick, sweet, rich beer. Could actually benefit from additional barrel tannin/cognac dryness. Good though, and if this is actually 14% abv, then consider me impressed, as it certainly dosent come across nearly that strong (there is certainly some alcohol and sharpness, but the massive body helps allay that somewhat). Good, if not terribly memorable, for the style.
