A beer named for Ernest Hemingway’s favorite drink. Close friends and family affectionately referred to Hemingway as “Papa”. The original Papa Doble was served at a Cuban bar called the Floridita. It was a daiquiri drink that had Double the alcohol. Our version of the Papa Doble is a bit different. Rather than mixing ice, juices and liquor we mix loads of Pale malt with hot water. Then add 40 lbs of American hops. This ale is all about the hops. Hops used are Nuggest, Cascade, Ahtanum and Willamette. This Double IPA is a hop heads dream beer for sure.

Bottle at RBWG hotel session. Pours clear gold with a fine, white foam head. Ripe citrus and melon on the nose. Medium sweet flavor, some bitter pine and toasty grass. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Resinous dry pine finish, light dry caramel, earth. So so.

Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orange color with a medium sized creamy white head. Good head retention. Aroma of floral and tropical hops with bubblegum notes. The taste is big grapefruit and other citrus notes, berries, tropical fruits and toffee malts. Medium bodied with a hint of booze. Weird beer, but still a good one.
