American Pale Ale with Calypso and Mosaic hops. Made by Doug Pominville.
Our Grunion Pale Ale wasn’t born on a beach, but in a backyard. Originating from an employee-only home brew contest, this award-winning hoppy pale ale is named after the tiny local fish known for late night frolics on shore. A pair of new hop varieties lend strong yet balanced summer melon aromas and herbal flavors, while a soft caramel malt sweetness holds it all together.

355ml can into schooner glass. Golden orange beer with tight white head. Laces well. Medium carbonation. Nose is full of promise. Tropical fruit, malt and pepper all apparent. Flat in the mouth, oily texture, slightly sweet. Then the finish! Wow. Earthy, nutty, sweet and lingering. Lavender, cashew, oranges and malt all make an appearance before the final lasting hop bitterness. Beautiful beer.

Absolutely gorgeous pale ale, a bright and sunny orange-gold with a massive cloud of head. Huge dank-citric hop nose. Starts with a soft orange-caramel sweetness, then grows semi-dry and floral as the Mosaics kick you in the teeth. Finishes with a biscuity malt flourish before a prolonged hop bitterness takes hold. Damned fine beer.

Tap at Hair of the Dog, Phrom Phong. Poured a hazy medium amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is yeast, weedy peachy citrus. The flavour is moderate bitter with a fresh crisp fruity yeast light peppermint bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Good, lacey white head over faintly hazy pale golden beer. Chalk, bit dusty hops, citrus, passion fruit, and other exotics. Sweetish, again very fruity and estery flavour. Faint ureum, and again this chalk/dustiness. Quite slick, but as said, tad dusty, as well for MF as for flavour. Medium bodied at best, good carbonation. Quite good pale ale.

Single can from Angelo Caputo’s. Big, hoppy smell hits me as soon as I turn the key. Sudsy, leggy foam over gold beer body. Hops in the glass are also strong and resiny. Taste is very bitter, more than just hoppy. No real room for the malts to stand up. And there’s a bit of a watery edge to the mouthfeel. After a great first impression, it’s a bit unbalanced.

Pors rather clear amber/orange. Small white head. Smell is intense ! tropical fruit, very crispy maltyness in the back. THIS is how a hoppy beer should Always smell like ! Taste is sharp, bitter, much maltcrisp, some green hops, some pine. Some tropical fruit. The taste here, is nothing less than awesome. The minor factor is def the body. It’s a very wattery beer. the intensity of the taste is quite good, compared to the body, but a thicker beer would also amplifie the intensity to make it truly great. the imperial version of this ( please, make it alike, only thicker ) would be - if it existed - one of my top favorite beers, i think !

355ml bottle. Fruity aromas. Bitter peach and orange. Flavour has grapefruit, orange, apricot. Little biscuit in there too. This is big and hoppy without much attempt at balance or subtlety. Pretty good.

Draft at Ballast Point. Golden pour. Aroma of tropical fruit, mango and citrus. Taste of soft tropical fruit, citrus, bitter grassy hops and some veggie herbs. Can’t resist the mosaic.
