Our rotating single hop DIPA series this time brewed with Citra. We are embarking on a fantastical journey (or dare we say quest) to put a singular focus on all of our favorite hop varieties, one at a time. A light and simple malt base of Pilsner Malt and Oats allow the single hop varieties to shine without stepping on it's toes.

Can poured into a snifter showing turbid apricot yellow with sparse white foam. The nose shows strong notes of guava and NE style malt with lighter notes of papaya. The palate is light bodied and well carbonated. Pronounced flavours of guava and NE style malt with a mild bitterness on the finish. Resurgence of more guava on the end.

Can thanks to Andrew. Pours a turbid yellow with medium frothy white head that lasts. The aroma is floral, tropical fruit, spruce. Medium mouth, juicy, grapefruit, orange peel, creamy, light bitterness, really nice.

Poured from a 16 oz can. Aroma is super hop forward with tons of citra notes. Lots of sweet citrus with some pineapple and tropical fruit notes. Hints of resin. Medium light cracker malt backbone. Pours an extremely muddy, pale brownish straw color with a medium sized, moderately thick white head that exhibits decent retention as it recedes to a thin film that lingers. Flavor is somewhat sweet with some moderate cracker malt notes. Medium bitterness with a ton of hop flavor. Citrus with pineapple and tropical fruits. Some light stone fruit ester notes. Some light resin notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. A light oily, slickness form the hop resins. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a super ugly IPA but super delicious and hoppy as well. Great citra character with enough malt to carry the beer but not overwhelm the hops.

Growler and can. The beer looks is white-yellow-tan and thick, like whipped cream in orange juice. Medium white head that can’t quite support its own weight. I’ve seen yeast starters with less sediment. The aroma is just straight up orange pineapple juice with a squeeze of kiwi and lime. I feel like I’m huffing tangerines. Taste is like the oil squeezed from a grapefruit rind in a tropical fruit salad. Moderate to medium bitterness. Relative to the hop flavor present, it’s not very bitter, but there are limits on these things. The mouthfeel is rich with hop oils, like chewing on hops rich. Sorta light, sorta creamy. Coats the palate like whoa. Pretty astringent. The finish is citrus rind for days. Despite all of that, the beer goes down super easily. My pint can was empty almost before I could even start writing. This stuff is wonderful. Hoof Hearted continues to refuse to practice any sort of moderation in hoppy beer brewing, and I can’t wait to try more.
