Gnommegang - Belgian-Style Blonde Ale
A little magic and a lot of mischief. This time the gnomes brought more than just yeast from their Belgian farmstead Brasserie d'Achouffe! While Coop and the gnomes were spicing things up at the brewery, our brewers were carefully fermenting signature, fruity, spicy Chouffe yeast to create the flavorful unique blonde ale we all love! Pours unclear blonde, small white head. Smell is a lot like la chouffe, sweet and coriander. Taste is bitter, coriander, sweet , herbal. Ok, tastes like they brewed the la chouffe recipe in NY, with a tad more hops. Ok

bottle - Pours hazy copper and has an aroma of bready malt, earthiness, and yeast spice. The flavor is a sweet with a fruity, yeasty character and minimal alcohol. To me there was a bit of a cough syrup flavor that made it not as good as many of Ommegang’s beers. I’ve had the bottle for a long time and maybe it doesn’t age well. This style usually does, but who knows. It’s still fairly good.

Mugs Ale House, Brooklyn tap: Pours golden with a frothy white head. Aroma is Belgian yeast, spice, and apparently chocolate, though I could barely notice it. Apparently there was some licorice too, but it evaded my taste buds. Taste is nice and bitter, a tad funky, slightly sweet. Easy drinking. Light even though it has high abv. A subtle and nuanced beer.

On tap @ Blind Tiger House. A really deep dark brown one with a small quickly sidesticking brown top. The nose has tones of both chocolate and licorice but it's definitely not what it would call extreme. Not bad at all though, and after a while in the glass it's revealing soft tones of yeast, almonds and toffee-fee. It has a average carbonation level and a oily mouthfeel. Immideately I get a good alcohol burn in this one. Softy licorice the sweet kind, some more yeast, a little bit of herbs and a a trace of wood. Just grows better and better! 18.06.2013

On tap at Mekong on 04/26/2011. Hazy orange body with a medium creamy off white head. Sweet fruit, belgian spice aroma. Sweet spice flavor, light fruit and faint candi sugar. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

C&C 750 mL bottle from Beer Run. Pours a very hazy orange color with a thin off-white head. Fair head retention. Aroma of strong yeast, big lime notes, some bready notes and caramel. The taste is yeast, bread, brown sugar, lime zest. I’m not sure why I’m getting so much lime in this beer, but I like it! Medium bodied, slight lingering spice.

Too much Ommegang and not enough of the gnome here. Has some nice floral hops on the top. Probably one of the best Ommegangs I’ve had though. Pours clear blond with a little head and lacing. Some booze in aroma as well. Finishes with light sweet and bitterness. On tap.
