Sample from 2012 batch at Great Taste of the Midwest on 08/09/2014: Inky black color with a medium tan head that diminishes gradually. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee. Medium to full body with a subtle boozy character and flavors of chocolate malt, coffee and sweet caramel. The finish is roasty with a malty aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Looks like an imperial stout ought to; black, low carbonation, and a light, airy khaki colored head. It has an initial aroma of Sammy Smith’s imperial. The first flavor is soy sauce, but not as much as their czar jack. There is also a lot of coffee, almost making this a coffee stout. It is probably the dryest imperial stout I have had, so dry that it is hard to drink a lot of it. Fairly thick.
