My idea of a strong ale was brewed with loads of malt, hops, jaggery and a touch of manuka smoke.
It was fermented with a clean ale yeast to let the ingredients speak for themselves without getting interrupted by too many esters.
After all that it was aged for 5 months on American oak, then refermented in the bottle.
Cheers – Søren Eriksen – Brewer
Hops - Pacific Jade, Chinook
Malt - Pale Ale, Munich, Special B
Yeast - US-05
Other - Manuka Smoke, Jaggery (raw sugar) and American Oak

Bottle. Wine with some smoked, a lot of other shades (malts, fruits, oak, pepper etc.), very impressive ale.

Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a crystal clear deep mahogany with a thin broken white head. The aroma is resin hop. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a woody resin citrus hop palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Lovely and smooth and the alcohol is well hidden.

Bottle @ home. Brown colour with no real head. Smells barley wine, roasty, dark malts, hops, almond, sweet, nice. Taste is the same as smell with a touch of alcohol. Very nice. Full body, soft carbo.

Sample at the Badge-Whore Bowl (OSU vs AL) tasting on 01/01/2015. Clear amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing. Aroma of smoked malt, hops and oak. Full-bodied with flavors of charred malt, dark fruit and oak. The finish is smoky with a fruity and malty aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bottled 330ml. -Courtesy of hrabren, shared with him and others. Darker amber coloured, medium sized pale beige head, hint of wood in the nose. Sweet malty, caramel, alcohol and mild spicy with notes of wood and dried fruits. Mild peaty notes in the finish. Good brew but too expensive (14€ small bottle).

Huge thanks to Hrabren for sharing this with us! Poured an amber-red body with a tiny off white head. Yoghurty, slightly peaty, heavily malty creamy aroma. Taste... Caramel, vague peat, light bitterness, vague alcohol. Finishes on a medium bitter note. Tasty but not that thrilling.
