My idea of a strong ale was brewed with loads of malt, hops, jaggery and a touch of manuka smoke.

It was fermented with a clean ale yeast to let the ingredients speak for themselves without getting interrupted by too many esters.
After all that it was aged for 5 months on American oak, then refermented in the bottle.

Cheers – Søren Eriksen – Brewer
Hops - Pacific Jade, Chinook
Malt - Pale Ale, Munich, Special B
Yeast - US-05
Other - Manuka Smoke, Jaggery (raw sugar) and American Oak

330ml bottle. Pours red brown with zero head (and I try). Raisins, dried figs, brandy, hazelnuts, oak, a little touch of smoke at the end, cherry, rum, muscovado sugar (or maybe that jaggery?). Big full body. It’s like a big boozy Christmas pudding. One of those beers that I respect a lot more than I enjoy drinking. Clearly very well put together, just not completely my thing.

330ml bottle. Pours a hazy red-orange with a thin, off-white head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, dark fruit, brown sugar, spice and oak. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, caramel, dark fruit, brown sugar, spice, oak, booze and a hint of smoke with a dry, bitter, hop resin finish. Medium to full body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Very nice, has some complexity to it.

330ml bottle bought at Value On, tasted at Jamey’s. Aroma is jaggery, caramel, oak, vanilla, candied fruits, some saddle notes. Taste is toffee, hoppy bitter, vanilla, caramel, smokey notes. Barrels, toffee, hoppy, roasted malt, slightly buttery aftertatse. Perfect!

Bought this at Svijet piva (World of Beer) in Zagreb for 100 hrk (13.30 €) for a 0.33 l bottle. Shared with Marko and Oggy. Clear dark brownish-amber, strange off-white head. Not really smoky, to much caramel, very aromatic. Very sweet, raisins, dry plums. Alcohol not at all hidden. Why is this so expensive?

Dec ’14. A 0.5 l bottle courtesy of hrabren, great thanks for sharing! It poured slightly hazy amber to copper body with smaller head. Quite fine and balanced aroma of caramel and fine sugary malt from one side and hop happy paradise on the other. Flavor was predominately bitter, hoppy, somewhat fruity. Extremely complex but I did not elaborate further in my notes. Medium bodied, moderately smooth on palate. Finished lightly and continuously even less bitter, with some of the other flavor notes, caramel being most prominent all the time. Fine, really complex and asks to be enjoyed slowly, preferably out of the timed tasting session.

Bottle. Dark bronze color. Nice aroma of smoked ham, malt, caramel, vanilla and oak. Taste is diverse, with oaky vanilla, smoked ham, rauchmalt, soft red fruit and some coffee bitter in the finish. Rich and mighty beer indeed, creative as well. Very good.
