My idea of a strong ale was brewed with loads of malt, hops, jaggery and a touch of manuka smoke.
It was fermented with a clean ale yeast to let the ingredients speak for themselves without getting interrupted by too many esters.
After all that it was aged for 5 months on American oak, then refermented in the bottle.
Cheers – Søren Eriksen – Brewer
Hops - Pacific Jade, Chinook
Malt - Pale Ale, Munich, Special B
Yeast - US-05
Other - Manuka Smoke, Jaggery (raw sugar) and American Oak

CBC. Very very tired rating! Light haze on this amber beer. Crisp malts. Minerals. Light marmalade hops. Some floral character. Dry finish. Pretty slammed at this point. Need to revisit. 3.7

Tasting at Bruce’s new pad. Thanks to Josh for the opportunity top revisit. Hazy amber beer with a small pale cream coloured head. Light dry palate, smooth. Tasty and semi sweet caramel malt. Light barrel induced paint ester. Light citrus and pine hops. Finishes smooth with mildly bitter toffee and a little spice. Nice!

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013. This is a cloudy dark plum-red one with a small bubbly light beige top. Not to extreme on the nose really, I get traces of a strong sweetness, lots of sweet malts, caramel, dried fruits, and some berries. Nice not to extreme aroma that's suggesting a really sweet beer. Let's try: yeah, it's sweet, but more nutty bitter than sweet really. It has a really thick and chewy mouthfeel and a soft tear non existing carbonation level. Birches and leafs, it's a bit earthy as well, and the nutty bitterness is kinda ruining this a bit for me. Fair enough, but not a favorite of mine. 04.05.2013
