On tap at Monkey Paw, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma brings out roasted malt, cocoa and chalk. Flavour is super rich, with lots of dark fruits, roasted malt and a little espresso. Rich and robust, with a sweet caramel and fruity finish. Very nice.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is chocolate and roast. Medium body, cocoa, cracker malt, light dry finish, good.

Draft at the brewpub - San Diego. Pours dark brown with a creamy khaki head that leaves moderate lacing. Burnt malts in the nose, some dry cocoa and coffee grounds. Medium sweet flavor with bitter dark roast bitter coffee, torched wood, well roasted malts, dirt, baking cocoa. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Dry chocolate to finish, some warmth, bitter baking cocoa, earth, espresso, burnt wood. Nice complexity.

Poured up on tap at GABF 2012 with a mahogany body supporting a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up malt roastiness, a little bit of dark roasted malts and then not really too much else. Overall sort of a mild aroma. The taste is pretty rich with dark roasted malts, a little bit of molasses, some earthy malts and then sort of burnt malts tossed in there too. It seems to get a touch minerally into the after taste. It also picks up a slight tart red wine like off note from time to time.
