The original Bornem abbey beer, originally (since 1957) brewed by Brouwerij Beirens in Wommelgem for the Sint-Bernardus abbey in Bornem, taken over by Van Steenberge in 1971 and formally recognized as an authentic abbey beer in 1999.

0,33 l Steinie bottle out of the Lidl 6er. Dark clear red brown in the glass with a more than one finger pale beige head. Looks really good. Can´t expect more. Low malty smell. Taste is real malty, little bit dry. Low sweetness. Low carbonation. Hidden alcohol. Nice one.

Przyprawowe, trochę melanoidynowe, kolendra w finiszu lekko kwaskowe. Barwa miedziana, piana redukuje się do niskiej, lacing delikatny. Goryczki brak. Jak na Belga dość lekkie, poprawne. Bez szału ale ok.

Bottle. Clean chestnut with a full frothy head. Aroma of red berries and nut malt. Flavour is chocolate malt, dry wheat, piwdered chocolate fruit finish.

Bottle from Lidl. Pours a murky chestnut brown colour with a large thick creamy beige head. Aromas of caramel, toffee and dry dark fruits with a hint of chocolate, brown bread and brown sugar. Taste is the same notes with added peppery spice and burnt brown sugar on a slightly roasty and bitter finish. Thinnish body with a fair amount of carbonation. Ok but i find this a little harsh and not one of my favourite Dubbels. Edit: The beer was much more enjoyable as it warmed and not quite as harsh.

Viel Malz, leicht röstig. Minimale Trockenobstnoten. Die starke Röstung und der hohe Alkoholgehalt tragen zu den bitteren Noten bei. Hinten raus etwas zu scharf, zu säurebetont.

18.08.2021 - 0.33l bottle from lidl (belgian pack). pours a clear amber with a steady dense head and a nice lacing. aroma of caramel, dried prunes, slight molasses. flavour of kompott, a bit of chocolate. medium body. alcohol is well hidden.
