Malzig in Nase und Trunk, dann sogar röstig - spannendes Dubbel, wenn auch etwas eindimensional.

330ml bottle. Clear, reddish, chestnut colour with average to huge, frothy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Sweet-ish, caramel malty and yeasty fruity aroma, notes of dried dark fruit, cherry, a herbal-spicy touch. Taste is dry hoppy, minimally sweet, caramel and dark malty, slightly yeasty fruity, hints of caramel, a touch of milk chocolate, hints of dried dark fruit, herbal-spicy overtones. Creamy texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, medium, soft carbonation. Relatively rich and manifold, balanced, harmonious - not bad.

330ml bottle from Lidl. Pours clear mahogany, big frothy tanned head, strong retention; looks good. Aroma is a little subtle, quite malty, raisins, sweetness, hay; its ok. Taste is sweet chewy malts, caramel, raisins, strong dry nutty bitterness; very good. Moderate body and a lovely soft carbonation which for me makes this superior to the La Trappe version. Excellent.

Bottle from Lidl. Dark brown in colour, with a reddish tinge and thin, off-white, head. caramel, berry fruits, spice, some leafy hops, ricj malts and a moderately bitter finish. Avoided being over-sweet and all the better for it.

Pretty dark, but neutral for the style. All the strong points are there, it is a little bigger, but a little subdued in flavour than average. Darker, more roast, but spot on for what they're goin for. Well done. online beerwulf
