Quadrupel Ale
”Do you know what dwells in a glass?” asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Shared bottle at Mi2 at Cardinal 12.02.18. Hazy chestnut. Beige head. Excellent aroma and taste of pale malt, medium roasted malt, roasted nuts, dried berries and figs. Sublime aftertaste. Quite dry. Lively mouthfeel.

Bottle @ home. A tad unclear amber-ish color, medium sized off-white to beige head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma is malts, caramel, raisins. Taste malts, raisins, some alcohol, somewhat sweet and somewhat [alcoholic] bitter. Meh, overall I could drink this yeah for sure, but I think it's quite a bad "abt/quadrupel" stylewise.

Mild plum and prune nose. Cloudy rust, thick tan head, decent lace. Maraschino cherries, plum, new plastic. Full body, soft carbonation, alcohol well-masked. Tasty, a little lacking in compexity for the style, but quite nice.
