Quadrupel Ale
”Do you know what dwells in a glass?” asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Pours a reddish brown from a bottle, cream colored head leaving creamy wall of lacing along the glass. Aroma of raisin and madeira, flavor adds clove and tobacco and some boozy candi sugar. Very good beer.

Hazy reddish amber colour, huge dense yellow head; aroma of biscuit, floral honey, orange zest and herbal-medicinal notes; taste of roasted sugar, herbal liqueur notes, orange zest oil and some dried fruits; ok beer, but very far from being a perfect quadrupel

0.355l bottle. Slightly hazy orange body, huge off-white head. Aroma of bread, caramel, orange zest and floral hops. Taste of bread, orange zest, dark sugar, toast and floral hops. It’s OK, but not that bold what I expect from a quad.

Small bottle (from beergium), BB 12.2017. A gusher (points removed from overall). Pours amber with beige head. The head stays for some time. Aroma is sweet, malt, fresh fruits, caramel, malt. Flavor is sweet and bitter, fruits, caramel, dark plums, some metallic notes and bitterness. Finish is dry bitter with very noticeable alcohol. Overall: drinkable, but how the hell is this so highly rated?!

750 mL bottle. Pours a caramel color with a yellowy head and a few fine particles in suspension. Big syrupy red grape and raisin aroma, cherry and apple after with a yeasty note. Raisin and green and red apple flavor with some caramel/molasses hints. Really, really tasty stuff here.

750 ml bottle. Pours a dark orange/brown amber with full head that dissipates quickly. A good Belgian nose of sugary malts, copper, yeast, and dried fruit. Flavors of herbal malts, spice, dried banana, and alcohol. Seems more of a light dubbel in flavor and mouthfeel but with a big ABV. Anyway - very nice and very "Belgian". Great.
