A strong beer which was usually kept in the wood for long periods. Large amounts of malt produced a sweetish beer at the beginning, but prolonged maturation developed a drier, more complex ale.
Brewed December 2010, and properly aged as an old ale should be, this ruby strong ale has a complex malt character and nutty Fuggles hops. Hints of marmalade and caramel are topped by sherry notes.
A very limited edition. We are planning to brew it again for next winter.

500ml bottle. Pours dark caramel with a small head. Aroma is boozy raisin and slightly sour, woody dark fruits. Taste has woody, dark fruity notes to start. Lots of rich dark fruits and wood. Warming aftertaste.

Reddish caramel brown, clear, thick white head with some lacing
Aroma of rich caramel malts, dark fruits, raisins, hint of sherry
Taste - rich dark caramel, dark fruits, soft dark cake spices, raisins, dark sugars, alcohol is noticeable but quite well hidden, some sweet sherry, touch of belgian-like yeast, dark honey.
Palate - soft carb, full body. Sticky but smooth texture. Finish of warming alcohol, dark sweet fruity malts and some yeast.
Overall - Tasting first, then the White Stout next, there was no competition - this is my 2nd fav beer to the Tempation Impy Stout. It’s a really nice strong old ale.

Bottle at home ... with my home made Christmas cake ... copper ... thin tan lacing ..sweet plums ... deep figs ... sweet malt nose ... big sweet juicy malts ... very figgy ... quite oily ... juicy malts ... light pine hop ... big marmalade ... It does indeed go with my cake ...
