A strong beer which was usually kept in the wood for long periods. Large amounts of malt produced a sweetish beer at the beginning, but prolonged maturation developed a drier, more complex ale.
Brewed December 2010, and properly aged as an old ale should be, this ruby strong ale has a complex malt character and nutty Fuggles hops. Hints of marmalade and caramel are topped by sherry notes.
A very limited edition. We are planning to brew it again for next winter.

Bottle: Copper coloured, smaller stable but loose off-white head, solid aromas of dried fruits and caramel in the nose with a slight alcoholic touch; moderate to solid sweet flavour, quite full bodied, as expected; dried fruits and even nutty traces in the sweet caramelly and vinous finish. A nourishing Ale…

(bottle) Hazy, copper to dark amber colour with a mid-sized tanned foamy head. Dark malty and mildly toasted malty aroma with fruity notes of red berries and strawberries, accompanied by hints of caramel and a delicately anise spicy touch. Sweet and moderately bitter flavour, quite full bodied with a calm carbonation. Almost a bit molassy dark malt-character with notes of caramel, berry-fruits and spices; sweet-bitter malt-accented and moderately fruity finish with an obvious alcohol presence which harms the positive impression a bit. 01.III.13

50cl bottle, BB 07/2017.

(Bottle, 0.5 l, at Pikkulintu, 20120927) The beer poured reddish brown and clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had malts and caramell. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, fruitiness, caramell and bitterness. Aftertaste had malts, molasses and bitterness. A boozy but otherwise quite balanced beer. I would have expected a fuller body.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; another winner from Durham brewery pours dark brown low carbonation and minimal head taste like brandy infused nutty Christmas cakes really. 10% ABV doesn’t come through nice

Bottle at Delirium Café. Pours darkly ruddy with a light beige head. Aroma is dark fruit and darkly roast malt. Full bodied. Flavor is dark roast malt. Suggests red wine in a non-vinous manner. Finishes very tasty. Excellent.
